You: Should I obey anyone I love? Should I obey my child or my wife or even my country?

Aaron: I would not go so far as you seem to want me to. We have been told to honor our parents, and God is the father of us all.

You: What if my father tells me to kill myself, or betray my country, or leave my family?

Aaron: A good father would not ask you to do such things.

You: What about a bad one? You said that I should honor my parents, not honor them so long as they deserve it. If the latter is what you meant to say, then how can I tell if God deserves it?

Aaron: We are quite a ways off the path here, describing what kind of parent God is when I have not even proven to you that he is real. You are speaking off the top of your head. For that reason, I think it wise to discuss a different proof.
