You: How are we supposed to know what the item was designed for? If we didn't know that a car was designed to move people from place to place, then we might very well think that it was designed to convert gasoline into heat, pollutants and noise.

Aaron: The purpose of an automobile is obvious, just as the purpose of living systems is obvious, and just as the purpose of a pocket watch found in the sand would be obvious.

You: The purpose of a watch or car is obvious to us because others of our kind built those objects. The purpose of a living creature, if there is a purpose, cannot be known to us because we could not know the mind of an all-powerful god.

Aaron: Again, not knowing what a thing was designed for does not deny that it was designed.

You: Not knowing whether something was designed for anything allows for the possibility that it was not designed at all, and I don't see the necessity of assuming that the world around us has any purpose.

Aaron: The world was created by God for man, and its purpose is to keep man alive and give him the chance for spiritual growth. I know that you are not going to accept this statement at face value, so let me first prove that God must have created living things, and if I am successful in that, I will prove that he created all living things for our benefit.
