You: I am going to have to ask you to define what you mean when you say "purely mechanical."
Aaron: Anything which acts but is not alive is purely mechanical.
You: You would be hard pressed to prove to me that a virus is not alive since it meets your three criteria for life. You seem to be calling it mechanical just because it pleases you to do so.
Aaron: Not at all. We do not say that something is alive just because it can mimic a living thing. A robot could be designed which moves and builds copies of itself , but that does not mean that it is alive.
