Aaron: Not at all. It only makes sense that man has a soul, considering how different he is from other creatures.

You: You're just setting up a definition again. I could just as easily say that bats have a special "bat soul" that gives them the ability to see in the dark, or that a "bird soul" leads the swallows back to Capistrano each year.

Aaron: There is only one soul, the human soul. The bat's hearing is a part of its physiology, and the swallow's instincts are no more mysterious than those of any other creature.
