You: Let me see if I've got this straight. You are saying that mechanical things cannot be alive without God's assistance and the thing that God puts in them to make them alive is this mysterious "spark of life".

Aaron: Correct.

You: Well if you are saying that living things are things that God has made alive, then we have no definition of life free from God. Unless you can find such a definition, we cannot use the fact that there are living things to prove God's existence.

Aaron: You obviously do not understand my argument. I have already told you the characteristics of living things. It is the spark of life which gives things those characteristics.

You: That is precisely what you have been trying to prove, but so far as I can see you've made no headway.
