You: Why must there be a "goodness ruler"? There is no most beautiful sunset, and yet we can say that a sunset is more or less beautiful based on our own taste and sensibilities.
Aaron: But you have a concept of a beautiful sunset derived from past sunsets and extrapolated to perfection. It is by that ideal sunset that you judge all others.
You: Why couldn't I just do the same for goodness? Imagine the best possible person and use that imaginary ideal as my ruler?
Aaron: Because you must first be able to recognize a good action before you can extrapolate.
