You: Something can certainly have qualities that its parts do not have. For instance, people are dependent on each other for company, but humanity itself is never lonely.

You: What I mean is that even if everything in the universe is dependent on something else, that does not mean that the universe needs to depend on something outside itself. If the universe is made up of A, B, and C, and A needs B, B needs C, and C needs A, then the universe is made up of dependent things but all of its members' needs are met within the universe.
