You: As a matter of fact, we might be more knowledgeable than any one of these men. In their day, they did not have available to them the wealth of information that is at our disposal today. They may have studied the classics, but they would not be able to benefit from much of the analysis of those classics because it was not written until they were many years in the ground.

As for intelligence, there is no way to measure the intellect of a living person with precision, let alone that of one who is dead. Who is to say that Bishop Berkeley was not a complete moron who never the less had a flair for writing authoritatively? I for one can understand his philosophy only when I am reading it, and the arguments seem to fall apart as soon as I remove my eyes from them.

Aaron: I must agree that I have had doubts about Berkeley's sanity myself, and have never been able to understand his philosophy, but this does not mean that he is wrong. To return to the point of this conversation, since you are not willing to accept these men's arguments without discussion, and since you obviously believe yourself equal to the task of understanding what they have to say, I will proceed to prove the existence of God to you.
