You: If good acts get me in no better graces with God, then why should I do them? If I have not sinned, I get nothing because I will not be punished in the afterlife regardless of whether I do good deeds or not, and if I have sinned, I need not do good deeds because my evil acts may wash away their benefit to my soul.

Aaron: You are still thinking of sin as some type of bank arrangement. God has told us what acts are considered good, such as loving one's neighbor and giving to the poor, and he has told us that he wishes us to do such acts. We should obey God out of our love for him, not because we think we will get something for it later.

How do you respond?

  1. Should we obey God just because he tells us to? Go
  2. Should we obey God just because we love him? Go
  3. Should I obey anyone I love? Go
