You: The cells in your body are also mechanical things. They do not show free will, they do not make choices. One can predict with reasonable confidence how a cell, a nerve for example, will react to a given stimulus. Are you willing to say that a cell is not alive?
Aaron: No, because a cell is part of a living creature. If a thing is alive then it follows that its parts are alive.
