You: Faith in God is not necessary at all. Science has done quite well without it.

Aaron: Perhaps, but science cannot explain everything.

You: I have heard it said that science is truth and religion is certainty. Scientists can have a great deal of confidence that what they believe is close to the truth, while those with religious faith cannot.

Aaron: You are completely missing the point. If you have faith, then you know the truth with complete confidence.

You: If that is true, then why are religious believers so afraid of scientific inquiry? If they are sure that they know the truth, then there is no danger in letting that truth be confirmed by science.

Aaron: The essence of faith is belief without proof. Satan can deceive a scientist, but not a faithful servant of the Lord.

You: I would rather risk being deceived by Satan than base my philosophy on what I wish were true.
