You: God does not exist even in the mind. I don't think you can really imagine an infinite being, let alone an omnipotent one, because there is nothing for you to base those imaginings on.

Aaron: Don't be silly. I can certainly form a mental picture of God.

You: So can I, but would you say that it is accurate? Is God a wise old man with a long grey beard?

Aaron: God could appear to you in any form he chose.

You: So I could imagine a blue whale and I might really be imagining God? That is not particularly convincing. It seems to me that, because you cannot imagine a being like your God, you are simply imagining something else and pretending that it is God.

Aaron: Not at all. If I were imagining the old man you described, and imagined him creating the universe or leading his people out of Egypt, then I would truly be imagining God.

You: Your mental picture could be nothing more than a Hollywood picture of what God would have to be like. I still say that there is no way you could truly imagine what it would look like for a being to create a universe. Any imaginings you had would necessarily be in the setting of our universe because you have experience of none other.

Aaron: We cannot resolve this issue. You say you can't, I say I can. It saddens me to see such a wonderful argument fail because of such a simple misunderstanding.
